Little Caesars Arena: where the Pistons and Red Wings play

Little Caesars Arena opened on Sept. 5, 2017, and it changed where two franchises play. The Red Wings moved in from Joe Louis Arena, and the Pistons moved downtown from The Palace of Auburn Hills starting with the 2017-18 season. The arena seats 20,332 for basketball and 19,515 for hockey, and it cost about $862.9 million to build.

Where is Little Caesars Arena in Detroit?

Little Caesars Arena is at 2645 Woodward Ave., in The District Detroit between downtown and Midtown, just north of I-75. The QLINE’s Sproat/Adelaide stops are right beside it, and its four entrances face Woodward Avenue, Sproat Street, Henry Street and Park Street.

What to know before a game:

  • Doors: typically open 90 minutes before Pistons and Red Wings games, though times can change.
  • Entrances: four street-level gates, Northwest (Sproat St.), Chevrolet (Woodward and Sproat), Fifth Third (Woodward and Henry) and Meijer (Henry and Park). All are accessible, and everyone goes through security screening.
  • Bags: only bags smaller than 4 x 6 x 1.5 inches. Diaper, parenting and medical bags up to 16 x 16 x 8 inches are allowed.
  • Payment: the arena is cashless. Reverse ATM kiosks turn cash into a prepaid card at no fee.
  • Water: one clear, factory-sealed plastic bottle of 20 ounces or less is allowed.
  • Re-entry: none. Once you leave, you’re out.

Olympia Development runs 32 parking facilities in The District Detroit, and you can reserve a spot ahead of time at ParkDistrictDetroit.com. The Red Wings list the Trinity Health, United Wholesale Mortgage and Temple West garages as having the closest accessible spaces. Full rules are in the Little Caesars Arena A-Z guide. For upcoming Pistons dates and TV channels, see our Pistons 2026-27 schedule.

Ford Field: is the Lions’ stadium enclosed?

Yes. Ford Field is a domed stadium with a fixed roof, so Lions games are played indoors no matter the weather. Skylights and large glass walls at the corners let in daylight. It opened on Aug. 24, 2002, which makes it 24 years old, and it cost about $500 million. Part of the design reuses a 1920s Hudson’s warehouse, where most of the suites now sit along the south sideline.

Where is Ford Field? It’s downtown at 2000 Brush St., directly across Brush Street from Comerica Park, with its parking deck on the east side along St. Antoine. Ford Field seats about 65,000 for football. It hosted Super Bowl XL in February 2006 and the 2009 Final Four, and the Final Four is scheduled to return in April 2027.

  • Gates: typically open two hours before kickoff, according to the Lions. Check the game-day page, since times can vary.
  • Bags: clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags no bigger than 12 x 6 x 12 inches, or a one-gallon clear freezer bag. A small hand-sized clutch can be carried in addition.
  • Payment: cashless, with cash-to-card machines at several gates.
  • Parking: the Ford Field Parking Deck (east of the stadium on St. Antoine) and Lot 4 (north, entered from Montcalm) are first come, first served and usually open about four hours before kickoff. You can prebook through ParkWhiz from the Ford Field parking page.
  • Tailgating: not allowed in the lots next to the stadium, and there is no re-entry to those lots. The official Pride Plaza tailgate on Brush Street is free and doesn’t require a game ticket.

The next Lions home game is Sunday, Nov. 1, against Minnesota at 1 p.m. ET. Our Lions vs. Vikings viewing guide has the TV and stream details, and the full Lions schedule includes the Thanksgiving Day game at Ford Field.

Comerica Park: home of the Tigers

Comerica Park opened on April 11, 2000, when the Tigers beat Seattle 5-2 on a cold, snowy afternoon. The Tigers moved there from Tiger Stadium, their home since 1912, and the new ballpark cost about $300 million. Capacity is 41,083. Look for the 15-foot tiger statue at the main entrance, the carousel behind the first-base side and the baseball-themed Ferris wheel behind the third-base side.

  • Gates: about 1 hour and 40 minutes before first pitch (11:30 a.m. for a 1:10 p.m. game). Concert gates usually open about an hour before showtime.
  • Bags: bags, backpacks and purses are generally not allowed. Single-compartment items smaller than 4 x 6 x 1.5 inches are fine, and diaper and medical bags must be under 16 x 16 x 8 inches.
  • Food and water: no outside food or drinks, except one clear, factory-sealed water bottle of 20 ounces or less (or for religious, dietary or medical needs).
  • Payment and re-entry: cashless, with reverse ATMs; no re-entry.
  • Parking: the Tigers partner with SpotHero for prebooked spots; the Tiger Garage and other options are listed at Tigers.com/parking.

The Tigers’ season is over, so Comerica Park is quiet until spring outside of special events. The Comerica Park A-Z guide has the full list of rules.

How to get to Detroit’s stadiums without driving

Two free rail lines cover all three venues, which saves you a parking fee and the post-game traffic.

  1. QLINE streetcar (free): runs along Woodward from Grand Boulevard to Congress Street, Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to midnight and Sunday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with cars every 15 minutes or less. The Sproat/Adelaide stops sit next to Little Caesars Arena, and the Montcalm stop is the closest to Comerica Park and Ford Field.
  2. Detroit People Mover (free): the elevated downtown loop stops at Broadway and Grand Circus Park, both short walks to Comerica Park and Ford Field. It runs weekdays 6:30 a.m. to midnight, Saturdays 10 a.m. to midnight and Sundays 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  3. Walk between venues: park once and walk. Comerica Park and Ford Field sit across Brush Street from each other, and Little Caesars Arena is a short trip up Woodward.
